This film was made by RKO, one of the big studios during the Golden Age of Hollywood. It tells the horrific life of juvenile delinquents in the Bible Belt, where slavery, torture, beatings and murder were the norm. Southern Evangelical States worked to have the film banned saying it portrayed them in a bad light.
